Replacing a circuit board sounds like a scary garage door repair, but it’s really quite easy. It will take 10 minutes tops and only requires a 1/4-in. nut driver. Just follow these steps: Remove the light cover, take out the lightbulb, disconnect the switch and safety sensor wires, remove a few screws, unplug the board and you’re done. A circuit board will cost about $80, so make sure you protect your new one with a surge protector. You can buy an individual outlet surge protector at a home center for less than $10.

Many garage door openers can be purchased with lighting features. The lighting features can be for security reasons or simply for light in the garage. The light is mounted right on the motor housing and will turn on when you use the opener. The light will stay on for approximately 15 to 30 seconds after the garage door is closed, but can also be turned on using a remote control or a wall-mounted switch. If your garage door opener does not come with lighting features, you can have them installed for roughly $50-$100. If you need to replace the light in the lighting fixture, a light bulb will cost $10-$15. You may need to hire an electrician for installation if the wiring is not in place. The cost to hire an electrician is $65-$85 per hour, and this process will only take an hour.
A garage door is a large door on a garage that opens either manually or by an electric motor (a garage door opener). Garage doors are frequently large enough to accommodate automobiles and other vehicles. Small garage doors may be made in a single panel that tilts up and back across the garage ceiling. Larger doors are usually made in several jointed panels that roll up on tracks across the garage ceiling, or into a roll above the doorway. The operating mechanism is spring-loaded or counterbalanced to offset the weight of the door and reduce human or motor effort required to operate the door. Less commonly, some garage doors slide or swing horizontally. Doors are made of wood, metal, or fiberglass, and may be insulated to prevent heat loss. Warehouses, bus garages and locomotive sheds have larger versions.
Almost all garage door openers come with a warranty. The warranty of your garage door opener will differ depending on where you purchased the product. The owner’s manual should give you the specific warranty information. Service is not covered by the warranty. If the owner chooses to have a professional service the opener or if the installation is a DIY, the warranty will not cover any repairs.

Containment cables. When old extension springs break, the springs and cables become heavy whips that damage cars and even injure people. To solve the whipping problem, manufacturers now offer containment cables that run through the center of side-mounted extension springs. If you have extension springs and don’t plan to replace your door, make sure the springs have these containment cables, or have a professional install them.

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
Regardless of the material, you will likely need to perform some regular maintenance tasks. A garage door professional can examine common problem areas to ensure all are working as they should. Additionally, it is necessary to examine the integrity of the door itself, since your garage can be especially vulnerable to security issues if your door is not structurally sound.

Single panel doors can also be installed with (one piece track type hardware) that folds the door back with a single horizontal track on each side (which is mounted at the top of the wood frame) and a roller, (mounted to the top of the door on each side. A hinge on each side that attaches to the bottom of each side of garage door. Using track hardware, a car can be parked much closer to the door, as the whole door, when in the open position, rests completely inside of the garage door header. Electric Garage Door Openers – Service and repair of the electric garage door opener itself, including the lift mechanism that pulls the door up and guides it down. With new smartphone connectivity, you can open and close your garage door opener from anywhere, right from your phone. You can even receive alerts when the garage door has been opened or closed. From your smartphone, you can download the app that is associated with your garage door opener brand. Smartphone connectivity is a feature that is built into your garage door opener, but cannot be purchased separately. Garage door openers that have this feature are on the more expensive side, and average in cost from $160-$350.
The process of installing a garage door opener includes preparing the main parts for assembly, assembling parts, and then attaching the blocking, motor component, and brackets 3. Next, the components will be put into place and the additional features such as the carriage, light bulbs, keypads, and sensors 1 will be installed. Lastly, the testing of the garage door and all working parts will be done to ensure that your new garage door is running smoothly.
Step 5: Check for loose hardware, and tighten as needed. On swing-up doors, check the plates where the spring is mounted to be sure the screws are tight, and tighten any loose screws. On roll-up doors, check the hinges that hold the sections of the door together; tighten any loose screws, and replace any damaged hinges. Sagging at one side of the door can often be corrected by servicing the hinges. If a screw hole is enlarged, replace the screw with a longer one of the same diameter, and use a hollow fiber plug, dipped in carpenters' glue, with the new screw. If the wood is cracked at a hinge, remove the hinge and fill the cracks and the screw holes with wood filler. Let the filler dry and then replace the hinge. If possible, move the hinge onto solid wood.
